Network Overview
The network consists of over 100 miles of fiber optic cable threading throughout Aurora. The entire backbone is 100% underground.
The City of Aurora designed and built this network as critical infrastructure, initially to connect municipal facilities and public safety sites. The network includes more than a dozen public and private towers/monopoles that are well-situated for radios transmitters and receivers.
The network uses a ring architecture with self-healing capabilities: if a fiber cut or outage occurs on one part of the ring, traffic is automatically rerouted the other direction, keeping your connection alive. The core fiber backbone runs on a 10 Gbps Metro Ethernet design, and is scalable to even higher capacities as needed.
Data Centers
Downtown Chicago: We maintain fiber all the way to 350 E. Cermak in Chicago, one of the world’s busiest internet hubs, enabling direct access to countless carriers and cloud providers.
Are you interested in leasing this fiber?CME Aurora Data Center: Our network connects to Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) data center in CyrusOne, located in Aurora’s northeast corridor on Diehl Rd.
Ascent/ByteGrid Data Center: OnLight fiber also links to the Meridian Parkway Data Center, located between Eola Rd and Route 59.

Available Assets
Dark Fiber & Conduit: The Aurora Network has excess fiber capacity on many routes. We offer dark fiber strands for lease on a vendor-neutral basis to those that wishes to run their own network services. If your project requires connecting through Aurora, we likely have infrastructure in place to facilitate it.
Towers: We have more than a dozen towers available for potential tower space lease. Namely, OnLight Aurora owns a 29-foot monopole located at the SW corner of Eola and Diehl. We welcome inquiries to lease space on this monopole or take ownership of it completely.
